Abstract

SAAVEDRA MARCOS, Fausto  and  VARGAS MAMANI, Martha. Influence of high-altitude over oxygen saturation in healthy newborns. Rev. méd. (Cochabamba) [online]. 2016, vol.23, n.1, pp. 14-18. ISSN 2074-4609.

Control of oxygen saturation is one of the most important steps in monitoring patients. The objective of this research is to establish oxygen saturation (S02) by pulse oximetry in clinically healthy newborns from high-altitude cities (La Paz and Cochabamba). Type of this study is descriptive, cross sectional. 280 newborn were included. The results show percutaneous S02 lower comparing to sea level, same results found in other work similar to our study area. We conclude that S02 is dependent on the height above the sea level. Recommend consider taking as a parameter in S02 in healthy newborns, the results found in this work and avoid unnecessary administration of supplemental oxygen.
