Pathological study of the origin of cancer has been in recent decades to the understanding of biomolecular and genetic factors associated with the occurrence of this disease. The technology resulted to identify novel proteins that are genetically involved with this pathological phenomenon of such importance in contemporary medicine methods. Terms coined by leading researchers such as J. Michael Bishop and Harold Varmus in understanding cancer genetics incorporated into oncogene as a concept and as an object of study today marked lines of research framed the prevention and therapy of cancer. Thus, the clinical relevance of genetics in human health and in understanding the disease an important element is made whereby the general practitioner and the specialist may be able to handle rational therapies oriented to best benefit the cancer patient. The aim of this article is to review contemporary concept of disease at the genetic level and epidemiological on oncogenes impact.
