COA CLEMENTE, Ramiro e LOZA CRUZ, Patricia. INEQUALITIESIN QUALITY OF LIFE OF BOLIVIAN ELDERLYS. THE EDUCATION A KEY FACTOR. Revista Varianza [online]. 2024, n.23, pp. 1-20. ISSN 9876-6789.
ABSTRACT This research aims to analyze inequalities in quality oflife ofolder Bolivians from a quality oflife index. Based on a set of indicators generated with data from the household survey carried out by the National Institute ofStatistics in 2021, indicatorsframedin the theoretical-methodologicalproposal ofthe LatinAmericanDemographic Center, and with the use ofthe main components technique, an index of quality oflife in old age was built. The index reflects significant inequalities in the quality oflife ofelderlys. The quality oflife for the upper quintile is more than double that ofthe lower quintile, decreasing as its age increases, increasing as its income increases and rising markedly as the education ofthe elderly increases. The causal analysis reveals that the education ofthe older adult achieved when he was relatively young has a very important impact on the quality oflife in his old age, much more than that ofhis income, so that higher level of education enable a better quality oflife in old age. It is recommended thatpolicies and programmes aimed at improving the quality oflife in old age should take these inequalities into account and thatfuture studies on the subject should provide information on self-perception ofthe quality oflife.
