COA CLEMENTE, Ramiro  e  LOZA CRUZ², Patricia. INEQUALITIES IN THE INCOME OF BOLIVIANS ELDERLYS. Revista Varianza [online]. 2024, n.24, pp. 1-22. ISSN 9876-6789.

Abstract This research aims to study the income inequalities of Bolivians elderlys with information obtained in the household survey carried out by the National Institute ofStatistics in 2021. In aframework oflow income received by a significant fraction of elderlys, less than one minimum wage, whether they are economically active or inactive, important inequalities are observed. Based on the results ofthe quantile regression, it is evident that (i) the incomes ofthe employed are significantly higher than that ofthe inactive, at all income levéis, with the gap widening even more at high income levéis; (ii) the incomes ofhousewives and the elderlys are significantly lower than that received by the employed, across the entire income distribution; (iii) the ejfect of education on income grows continuously as income moves from low to high levéis, but much more at high income levéis; (iv) after controllingfor the ejfect ofother variables, the gaps between men's and women's income disappear; and (v) the same happens with the age ofelderlys, there are no intergenerational gaps in terms ofincome. It is recommended to créate the basis for a gradual transition towards formal and decent jobs, design policies and programs to take advantage ofthe current demographic bonus, increase amounts andfocus on groups ofelderlys who benefit from non-contributory pensions, and ensure the completion ofhigher education, including technical education.
